Should Chelsea sell Hakim Ziyech in the winter transfer?

About Football Express UK

Chelsea attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech has had a tough time ever since his move. The playing time for the former Ajax star has been limited owing to both injuries as well as tough competition in the team.

Now it seems that Ziyech could be on his way out of Chelsea as rumours are starting to come up about a possible winter transfer. Borussia Dortmund looks to be interested with Bild reporting that the German outfit will approach for a loan for Ziyech.

As clubs are lining up for his signature, Premier League leaders will be weighing up the future of Ziyech with the club. But should Chelsea hold on to him or sell the Moroccan in the winter transfer window.

ZIYECH FINDING IT HARD AT CHELSEA

Ziyech had a difficult start to his Chelsea life. He missed many matches in his first season with the injury which also limited his ability to fit in with the team. But the biggest factor has been the arrival of manager Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel likes to use a 3-4-2-1 system which he at times turns to a 3-5-2. The Chelsea already has great quality with the likes of Ngolo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic operating in the middle. The more attacking role is handled by the wing-backs and attackers.

All this meant that Ziyech is not able to be as influential to Chelsea as he has been with Ajax. In his final season with Ajax, “the Wizard of AMS” had 19 goal contributions (goals + assists) in the Eredivise. Over his 49 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, the 28-year-old could only manage 13 goal contributions. This showcased the drop in confidence as well as why Ziyech is not able to fit well with the Chelsea system.

MOVE A GOOD CHOICE FOR ALL

With Borussia Dortmund interested, Chelsea should seriously consider the possibility of letting go of Ziyech. The Germans have currently offered a loan move, which would also benefit both parties.

Chelsea could let Ziyech leave on loan in January. If the player is able to regain his confidence and hit some form, that will be beneficial for the club. Chelsea could choose to bring him back or can sell him for a higher price.

There are enough attacking players in the Chelsea side and they have not been reliant on Ziyech much. Hence it is better for both parties to cut the losses and move on. For Chelsea, this will be a reduction in the wage bills and a possible transfer fee next summer. In the case of Ziyach, it is a chance to play regularly at a time he is hitting his peak.
