Sevilla defender Jules Koundé is very close to signing for Chelsea in the transfer window after talks with the Blues.
The 23-year-old’s future has been up in the air for quite some time with FC Barcelona and Chelsea interested in him. The Catalan giants had reached a verbal agreement with the defender to make his signing possible this summer.
However, due to the economic factors coming into play, talks have slowed down with the player and the La Liga club. With this, Chelsea have paced up their interest and have held multiple talks with the player’s representatives for a move.
Koundé close to joining Chelsea?
It is no secret that Chelsea have locked horns with Barcelona for the signing of Koundé this summer. But this isn’t the first time the two big clubs have crossed swords as they previously clashed for Raphinha.
The Blues had a better deal in place for the former Leeds United winger, however, Barcelona hijacked the deal. Raphinha was interested to join the Catalan giants than make a move to the Bridge this summer.
Moreover, the Blaugrana outfit felt that the Koundé deal could end up just like what happened with Raphinha. But now it appears as though Chelsea could get the better off Barcelona by signing the Sevilla ace.
In the midst of the transfer battle for the player, Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui dropped a hint on the exit. He said-
“Kounde arrived at the Ciudad Deportiva of Sevilla FC on Wednesday morning but has not trained with his teammates. Departure is imminent.”
Chelsea could be very close to securing the services of the defender and bringing him to the Bridge. However, it remains to be seen if Barcelona spoils the party for the Blues and hijacks this deal as well!
