Sau Paulo manager not happy with the club for letting teenager join Arsenal

About Football Express UK

Arsenal have reportedly completed the signing of talented winger Marquinhos from Sau Paulo. Further on, the move is now only subject to medicals of the player which will be held in the coming days. Arsenal are not messing around this summer with Sau Paulo winger Marquinhos being their first signing. At just 19-years-old, Marquinhos adds to an already young squad at Arsenal. However, Sau Paulo manager Rogerio Ceni is fuming with the club’s decision to sell Marquinhos. The Gunners’ Sporting Director Edu has played a crucial role in landing his fellow countryman in the Emirates.

Arsenal have set in motion their transfer plans for the summer market. The Gunners closely missed out on the Champions League qualification to Tottenham. Manager Mikel Arteta has already expressed his frustration and is hence planning big for the next season. Moreover, Arsenal are once again ready to back Arteta in the market as they did last summer. Arteta spent £150 million on signing last year which has apparently helped the club get back into Europe with Europa League. However, Sau Paulo manager Ceni is not at all happy with Arsenal’s first signing this summer.

Sau Paulo boss angered with club’s business with Arsenal

According to Brazilian media outlet Bola VIP, Ceni is frustrated with him losing a talented player in Marquinhos. This is because the manager still counted on the 19-year-old to be a part of his plans. Marquinhos has played 18 games in all competitions for Sau Paulo this season, scoring 3 times and assisting once. No surprise that Arsenal went after the Sau Paulo teenager. However, Ceni is ‘irritated’ with his club’s decision as per Bola VIP.

Ceni reportedly wanted to extend Marquinhos, who had 2 years left on his contract at the Brazilian club. But Sau Paulo rather sold their asset, foiling Ceni’s plans. Moreover, Ceni is ‘very angry’ with his club for not one but two reasons. As reported the first reason is Marquinhos’ sale, and the second is the fee for which the sale has been finalized. Arsenal will reportedly pay Sau Paulo £3 million for Marquinhos. Ceni is angry with this as well since he believes the amount should be more.

Ceni might be correct as well since Marquinhos’ current market value according to Transfermarkt is £6.3 million. As evident, Sau Paulo will be getting half his market value from Arsenal. Further on, the Brazilian club has taken some decisions to ensure they don’t lose out on young talents in the future for mere fees. Bola VIP report,

‘Sao Paulo will no longer give young players with expiring contracts the chance of a showcase before potential moves to Europe’.

Meanwhile, this won’t be the first time Arsenal have unearthed talent from the South American nation. Edu successfully brought Gabriel Martinelli as well from Brazilian club Ituano for a fee of £6 million in 2019. The 20-year-old winger has been a hit at Emirates, playing 85 games for the club while netting 18 goals and assisting 13 so far.
