Ruben Neves in the radar of Manchester United

About Football Express UK

Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers may sign for Manchester United as reported by The Sun. The Red Devils seem to have to prepare for an offer to sign the Portuguese midfielder.

Meanwhile, Neves has been in an inspiring form for the Wolves side. He has made 19 appearances in all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist in the season.

The 24-year-old started his youth career at Porto and went on to secure a position in the senior team. His potential made Wolverhampton Wanderers sign him in 2017 for approx $20m. However, he went on to make 195 appearances netting 21 goals and assisting in 11 games for the Wolves.

Meanwhile, Manchester United showed their intention to sign the Portuguese midfielder since the tenure of Ole. Recently appointed United boss Ralf Rangnick is looking for a midfielder to boost up the midfield.

The performances from the likes of Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, and Fred have been disappointing under the German coach. With Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba set to leave, it is inevitable for the German to sign a new midfielder.

On the other hand, Bruno Lage has made it clear that he wants to secure the best out of Neves and push him to the next level.

“It’s not about a contract or money. It’s about creating a big team that fights for different things.

Ruben is in that place where he needs a different challenge. And we also want a different challenge for the club. We want to push younger guys, like Ruben, to the next level.”

The German tactician saw Neves’ abilities as Wolves went on to clinch a victory 1:0 over his side at Old Trafford on Monday. Ralf Ragnick would love to see the 24-year-old Portuguese on his side.

Possibility of signing

The Portuguese midfielder has a contract with the Wolves which expires in the summer of 2024. As per reports, United is preparing an offer of £35m to lure Neves. But Wolves might not let the midfielder go with anything less than £40m.

Speaking about his future, the Portuguese said,

“The future will be seen soon.

I like to live in the present and I’m happy, I feel great in Wolverhampton and I’ll focus here because if I do things right I’m sure the future will be bright.”

He has also not ruled out his desire to play for a Champions League playing club. So, Manchester United may bag Neves if they negotiate the right price despite the reluctance of the Wolves management.

Other clubs

Premier League club Arsenal is also in the race to sign Ruben Neves other than Manchester United. Mikel Arteta’s side is looking for a midfielder and is currently monitoring Neves’ situation.
