Rogerio inching closer to a move to Newcastle United

About Football Express UK

Newcastle United are closing in on securing the signature of Sassuolo left-back Rogerio. The Magpies have been linked with the Brazilian in the past and it seems like the move could happen before the end of January.

This is according to multiple reports including from that of Italian Journalist Rudy Galetti. Reports suggest that Newcastle United have already reached an agreement with Rogerio over personal terms.

The Magpies have been in the market to find reinforcement to strengthen their team. Though there were other targets in the left-back for Newcastle United, it seems that the club is now focusing on Rogerio.

LOOKING FOR A LEFT-BACK

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has been active in the market and is looking to bring in a new left-back. The current options of Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummet have not been able to capture the confidence of the manager as the club is looking for a replacement.

The club primarily had other players on their list. This includes the likes of Robin Gosens of Atalanta and Mitchel Bakker of Bayer Leverkusen.

Robin Gosens was one of the early targets for Newcastle. However, his current injury was an issue for the Magpies. The German now looks to be on his way to Italian champions Inter Milan. Mitchel Bakker on the other hand was an alternative in the left-back role, but the player seems not ready to join Newcastle.

ROGERIO AGREES PERSONAL TERM WITH NEWCASTLE UNITED

As a result the club now looks to rekindle its interest in Rogerio. The left-back was earlier linked with Newcastle United, though the move never materialised.

Rogerio has been an important part of the Sassuolo team that is sitting 11th on the Serie A table. He already has 19 appearances for his club across all competitions, assisting 2 times during this season.

Reports suggest that Newcastle have reached an agreement on personal terms with Rogerio. If the player is to join the Magpies, he will be earning €2.5 million per year. It now will fall into the hands of Sassuolo, who will have to take a decision on whether to sell Rogerio.

Newcastle United are not going silent in the transfer market as they are trying to stay in the Premier League. The club has already completed the signing of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood in this window.

They are now linked with multiple other players including Bruno Guimaraes and Diego Carlos. Rogerio could be a more low key signing for the side if both the club can reach an agreement before the end of January.
