Manchester City will travel to Germany as they prepare to take on RB Leipzig in their final group stage match of the Champions League. The Premier League champions can relax as they have already secured the qualification to the next stage.
Leipzig and Manchester city were part of Group A, which was considered to be one of the toughest groups. They were present alongside PSG and Club Brugge.
However, the performance of Manchester City meant that the club will finish as the group leader, no matter what the result was. Leipzig only has 4 points from a possible 15 and will not qualify for the next stage. But Die Roten Bullen still have a chance to make it into the Europa League with a good result.
RB LEIPZIG V MANCHESTER CITY: TEAM NEWS AND INJURIES
The biggest story for Leipzig will be their managerial position. After a poor season, that saw them win just one match in their Champions League group and currently languishing in the 11th position in the Bundesliga, the club has decided to part way with their manager Jesse Marsch.
This meant that assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer has been given the charge as the interim manager of the team. He will be happy with the return of Tyler Adams, who is back from his suspension.
However, the good news ends there as many key Leipzig players are currently missing due to injury and covid issues. This includes the likes of Ilaix Moriba, Amadou Haidara, Yussuf Poulsen, Dani Olmo, Willi Orban, Marcel Halstenberg, Marcelo Saracchi and Hugo Novoa.
For Manchester City, Ferran Torres is the only player not available for selection. As a result, with all other players returning to fitness and the match result not having any effect on the final standing, manager Pep Guardiola could be looking to rotate his side heavily.
POSSIBLE LINEUPS AND PREDICTIONS
RB Leipzig: Peter Gulacsi; Lukas Klostermann, Mohamed Simakan, Josko Gvardiol; Nordi Mukiele, Tyler Adams, Konrad Laimer, Angelino; Christopher Nkunku, Emil Forsberg; Andre Silva
Manchester City: Zack Steffen; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish
PREDICTIONS: RB Leipzig 2 – 2 Manchester City
RB Leipzig have shown their ability to challenge Manchester City in the reverse leg when they lost 6-3 away from home. With the game played on home soil and under a new manager, the team will be looking to give a response to their recent poor form.
Manchester City on the other hand is expected to rotate heavily, giving much-needed rest to some of their regular starters. Even then, the quality of the squad is so high that the home side will find it extremely hard to beat.
Leipzig will be more motivated for a result as it will determine their qualification to the Europa League. Hence with nothing to play for Citizens could take their foot off the pedal.
