RB Leipzig centre-back could replace Cesar Azpilicueta at Chelsea

About Football Express UK

Chelsea have identified RB Leipzig centre-back Joško Gvardiol as a replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta if the latter makes an exit this summer.

The Blues are currently having to turn to defenders in the transfer market after the exits of a few players. The likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen make it to the list of players who left Chelsea this summer.

Azpilicueta too seems to be on the brink of an exit from the Stamford Bridge this summer. Moreover, Catalan giants FC Barcelona are pushing for a move for the Spaniard to have him in the new season.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel lost out on the signing of Matthijs de Ligt earlier to Bayern Munich. However, the Blues eventually signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli as a first step to securing the defence.

Gvardiol to replace Azpilicueta at Chelsea?

The 20-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs in the transfer window for his wonderful performances. Moreover, Chelsea have identified the 6ft 1 defender as a replacement for Azpilicueta assuming the Spaniard leaves the Bridge this summer.

The young sensation has relished an impressive season in the Bundesliga with Leipzig playing superbly in the back three. His contract with the German club runs till 2026 but many clubs still want his services as early as possible.

Moreover, Chelsea is still on the move for Jules Koundé but nothing concrete has yet happened with Barcelona also pushing. However, in the case that Azpilicueta leaves and Chelsea cannot land Koundé, they might negotiate for Gvardiol for the move.

The Blues’ first priority is to get a replacement for the Spaniard before an exit happens this summer. With a few days left before the transfer window closes, Chelsea will need to up their game and push for transfers.
