Ray Houghton said Harvey Elliot had a ‘spring in his step’ in the Carabao Cup final

March Brighton Liverpool

Liverpool and Chelsea had their fair share of chances in the Carabao Cup final but Liverpool came out on top with the help of Virgil Van Dijk’s winner. Both the clubs gave it their all throughout the game. However, the one player that stood out for Ray Houghton was Liverpool’s Harvey Elliot. The midfielder was one of the few players that lasted the full 120 minutes. The former Liverpool player praised the youngster for his person. Furthermore, Houghton said that Elliot was exhausted but he had a real “spring in his step” when the ball was at his feet.

Ray Houghton added,

“When Harvey Elliott didn’t have the ball he could hardly move, when the ball came to him, there was a spring in his step, he was buzzing around, it was great!”

Harvey Elliot could get more opportunities to perform in the next few weeks

Liverpool’s side are facing a crisis with many of their significant players suffering injuries. Mohamed Salah was present for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea but was not fit to perform. Harvey Elliot skillfully handled the position as a replacement for the Egyptian international. Elliot unfortunately did not make it on the scoresheet even after coming close during the second half of the game. The 20-year-old has been used as an option from the bench this season. However, he has displayed exceptional performance in recent weeks. Elliot could start for Liverpool in the next fixture in case Salah is still not fit to play.

Liverpool’s incredible form could be hindered by injuries

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table. However, they are just one point ahead of Manchester City. Moreover, Arsenal are just two points away from bridging the gap with Liverpool. Man City and Arsenal can run ahead in the title race if Liverpool lose their current form due to injuries. However, the Reds are not to be underestimated. Liverpool managed to win the Carabao Cup even with the youngsters, and can create wonders in the Premier League too. However, if Liverpool’s form is hindered, Man City and Arsenal will receive a huge boost to move ahead in the Premier League title race.
