Ralf Rangnick’s verdict on Manchester United striker situation

Ralf Rangnick

In a recent interview, Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said that the club needs to sign two new “modern” strikers in the summer transfer window. He also added that the new stickers must bring real quality to the attacking ranks under the new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ralf Rangnick took over as the club’s interim manager back in Decamber after the club sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The German manager signed a six months deal with the club, with two years in a consultancy role at the end of the season.

The interim manager recently took over as the Austria national team manager. But he has confirmed that he will continue in the constancy role and help Erik ten Hag rebuild the club and side. While his time at the club has not been a complete success. But he has gained the respect of the Manchester United faithful as he has been outspoken about the dire situation at the club. He has also thrown underperforming stars on mega-contract under the bus constancy. Something we have rarely seen at Manchester United in the past few seasons.

Talking about the striker situation at the club, Ralf Rangnick said:

“Cristiano isn’t a central striker or does not want to play in that position,” “It’s obvious the club needs at least two new strikers who give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers.”

“Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers. If you look into international football, there aren’t many top teams who still play with two strikers. Most play with either three strikers or a false nine.” he added.

“If you look at Liverpool and Manchester City, they have in their squad five or six top-class strikers,” Ralf Rangnick on the striker situation of their rivals

The interim manager also talked about the striker situation of their rivals Manchester City and Liverpool. Rangnick said:

“Gabriel Jesus, until four weeks ago, hardly played [for City]. Now he’s playing again regularly. You look at the number of players they have and if you ask me is he playing as a central striker or winger? Is Jack Grealish a winger or striker?”

“They’re all strikers and can play in different positions. They can also switch, they can rotate. Those kinds of players, we don’t have that many.” he added.
