Raheem Sterling is reportedly linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium and Barcelona is a potential destination for the Englishman as per the recent reports.
As per the report, Manchester City is reportedly eyeing a swap deal with Barcelona where Raheem Sterling will go to the Camp Nou and Frankie De Jong could move to the other way.
The Englishman has already expressed his concern last summer about the lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium and could be tempted to play abroad.
While City boss Pep Guardiola did deny the Englishman’s departure and said that Barcelona could sign anyone if they want them. The Catalan giants are an exciting place and are getting better. He said quoted by Mundo Deportivo(Via Manchester Evening News):
“Honestly I have no idea. I don’t know anything. Not that I would tell you anyway. If Barcelona are interested in any of our players, I am convinced that they can get them. Barca continues to be an attractive club, more than attractive. The city, the club, the history and this for the trainers, for the players always seduces a lot.
“If Barcelona interests one of our players, they will set up the machinery into operation, it is a liner. Barca can use their media to influence signings. That’s the thing about Barcelona; they can do what they want, good or bad.”
Will Sterling be a good fit for Barcelona?
Barcelona has been struggling with its wide areas. As the youngster, Ansu Fati has struggled with his injury over the past few campaigns. And the other winger Ousmane Dembele has also struggled to stay fit since moving to Camp Nou.
So, the former Blaugrana boss Ronald Koeman had to deploy full-back Sergino Dest in the right-wing position to fill that void. So, signing Raheem Sterling could be a perfect addition for Barcelona to resolve their wide areas, given the Englishman can play in either flank.
While Xavi has already stated that he wants to implement a high-pressing system. Whereas the 26-year-old could be a perfect forward to press the opposition with his speed and tenacity.
So, bringing in Sterling could be a great acquisition for Barcelona. However, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League giants would want to sell their star man. As the England International is only 26 at the moment.
