Race on for Declan Rice

About Football Express UK

West Ham starlet Declan Rice has reportedly been attracting a lot of interest from all over England. The English midfielder is on the shortlist of a host of clubs.

The 23-year-old has scored three times and registered four assists in 28 games this season. He’s been one of the main reasons the Hammers have been so dominant in the last couple of seasons.

POSSIBLE DESTINATIONS FOR DECLAN RICE

According to The Guardian, Chelsea has shown interest in bringing the England international this summer along with Manchester City and Manchester United.

Looking to have a midfielder of Rice’s profile, Chelsea has already begun their hunt for their next generation of midfielders. Jorgingo and N’golo Kante are both 30 and aren’t getting any younger and Chelsea would want to have Rice in an attempt to freshen the midfield.

Manchester United have been looking for a defensive midfielder for quite some time now and they feel that their search has ended. The Red Devils have identified the West Ham midfielder as a prime target and are eager to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.

Manchester City and midfielders are a love story perhaps greater than some romance novels. Pep Guardiola’s side already boasts of a lot of talents in midfield and they don’t shy away from the opportunity to get their man. The Citizens are seriously looking at Rice to provide something different to their already glittering midfield.

PLAYER PROFILE

Rice is a defensive-minded midfielder who is known for his tenacity and clean tackling. He’s combative in the air and has an excellent sense of positioning. His anticipation, agility and ball-winning ability mean he is very capable at counter-pressing. He often wins the ball back early on following a loss of possession before quickly distributing the ball.

A lot of the unselfish work that he does goes under the radar. He makes the kind of contribution to his teams that is often overlooked when assessing the impact of a player on a match or team.

In an interview on February 2020, West Ham manager David Moyes had this to say about the then 21-year-old:

“He is arguably the best holding midfield player in the country and the best thing about Declan is he will get better. I don’t agree with the owners that he is a £100m footballer. Far, far more than £100m. Far, far more.”

FINAL VERDICT

Declan Rice is someone who has the ability to improve the quality of any midfield in the world. It would be interesting to see where he chooses to go, given the Hammers agree to sell him this summer. Needless to say, we can expect to see a battle among multiple clubs for his signature. A challenge beyond England isn’t too far off either, although unlikely.
