Premier League game week 13 round-up

About Football Express UK

Another exciting Premier League game week comes to an end and it was quite an enjoyable weekend for the English football followers.

The league leader Chelsea dropped points against a struggling Manchester United side. Which closed the gap up top as the other contender’s Manchester City and Liverpool have won their games quite comfortably.

On the other side of the table, Newcastle United failed to win yet another game in the league and they are the only side who haven’t won a single game so far this season. The Magpies are in real danger of relegation at the moment.

Other teams who are fighting for their survival, Burnley who were supposed to meet Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday but the game was cancelled due to heavy snowfall.

Premier League game week 13:

Liverpool 4-0 Southampton:

The Reds hosted the Saints at Anfield stadium and came away with all three points with ease. The visitors tried to go toe-to-toe against Jurgen Klopp’s side and pressed high but the consequence of that is apparent on the scoresheet.

Liverpool were already three goals up at the interval thanks to Diogo Jota’s brace and Thiago Alcantara’s deflected attempt. After the break, Virgil Van Dijk scored yet another goal from a corner to register a comfortable victory.

Manchester City 2-1 West Ham United:

Although the scoreline does not reflect the story of the game, it was a pretty comfortable night for Pep Guardiola’s side in a snow storm. This is a different City compared to what we used to see in the past as they displayed a more pragmatic approach than their usual free-flowing football.

The Citizens had to wait until the 33rd minute to open the account and Bernardo Silva doubled the lead right on the 90-minute mark. However, the visitors scored a late consolation through a wonderful strike from substitute Manuel Lanzini which ruined the clean sheet for Ederson.

Premier League game of the week: Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United

Chelsea was under pressure coming into this game. As they required a win to keep their distance from the second-placed Manchester City. However, following this result, the league table is very tight with the Blues at the top with 30 points from 13 games, Manchester City is second with 29 points in as many games and Liverpool are third with 28 points.

Meanwhile, after finishing 0-0 in the first half, the Red Devils went ahead into the game through Jadon Sancho and Jorginho equalized the game soon after from the penalty spot. Both sides had opportunities to come away victorious from this encounter but neither team were clinical enough in front of the goal.

Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United:

Following a crushing defeat against Liverpool, the Gunners have returned to winning ways after beating the bottom side by 2-0. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli scored the two goals for the host. But, the injury to Saka will be concerning news for the Emirates faithful.

After this win, Arsenal is in contention for the top-four finish. As they are currently sitting fifth in the table with 23 points in 13 games. Only behind West Ham United in goal difference.

Battle for survival:

Having finished 0-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Norwich City has now earned four points from the first two games since the appointment of Dean Smith. Therefore, they are now dreaming about surviving, despite a horrible start to the season. Meanwhile, Aston Villa has won their back to back games under the new manager Steven Gerrard. After the Villains beat Crystal Palace by 2-1.

In the other games, Leicester City beat Watford by 4-2 and Brentford won against Everton by 1-0. Brighton & Hove Albion only had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Leeds United at home.
