Palhinha, the £17m midfielder is marked as too old by Liverpool to sign

Joao Palhinha seems destined to leave Fulham this summer. The Portuguese midfielder was incredibly close to joining Bayern Munich last year, and while that deal fell through, Palhinha remains one of the best players outside of the Champions League.

Tony Khan stated this week that the player would be sold if the right offer came in this summer, and, as you can imagine, that’s led to plenty of speculation about where he may end up.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Alex Crook has been discussing Palhinha’s options, and he says that both Liverpool and Chelsea have decided that the £17m man isn’t for them because they believe he is, quite simply, too old.

Liverpool said that Palinha is too old to play for them:

The journalist shared what he knows about the Fulham star.

“The issue he has in this country is that his people have touted him to a lot of big clubs at the top of the Premier League foodchain but certainly in the case of Chelsea and maybe even Liverpool they have decided he is too old, there’s no resale value, so it will be interesting to see if Fulham have to lower their asking price because of that,” Crook said.

We can’t help but wonder what sort of direction football is going in if a tob club is considering too old to sign a 28 years old player.

Palhinha is a brilliant midfielder who would improve almost any team in the Premier League. And while he may not have much room for improvement at this point, he’s still a cracking player.

Yes, he’s 28, but realistically you could still get half a decade of good service out of him at this point.

Liverpool and Chelsea’s loss may be someone else’s gain here, because whoever does end up signing Palhinha will be getting an incredible player.
