Neil Warnock thinks that Spurs should have gone for this Arsenal target instead of Djed Spence

Tottenham Sutton

While speaking to SPORTbible Warnock underlined his verdict after Spurs brought Djed Spence to the club from Middlesbrough.

Warnock wanted Spurs to sign Arsenal target Isaiah Jones.

The septuagenarian radio pundit had coached Spence when he was the manager of Middlesbrough. There, Warnock felt that Spence had few ‘attitude problems’. After this incident, he was consequently loaned out to Nottingham Forest.

However, interestingly, the 21-year-old went on to play a significant role in Forest’s promotion to the Premier League this season.

Spence was quick to take a dig at his former coach after winning the promotion for Forest.

Now, Warnock elaborated on what happened before he was loaned out to Forest. He also highlighted the fact that Arsenal target Jones is a better player than Spence.

He said,

In the best interests of the club, he had to go out on loan. I felt if he went out on loan and did well, they’d get money for him. Whereas Isaiah Jones, I don’t think there’s a better right wing-back in the league, he’s the best one there is.”

We are made to understand that things indeed became spicy between the player and the coach.

Moreover, after winning the promotion for Forest, this was the first thing he wrote about on his Twitter account.

If Warnock is to be believed, Arsenal could pip Spurs if they can sign Jones

Arsenal would have an edge over Spurs if they succeed in signing Jones this season.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have their eyes on the Middlesbrough right-back. Spurs are also said to have looked for the player before signing Spence. Jones could be an effective backup to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who remains ever injured.

However, Cedric Soares is there for backup, still, it is felt that he could be used higher up the pitch this season.
