French center-forward Anthony Martial could finally end his disappointing time with Manchester United. The player could be moving away from the club in the coming January transfer windows, with multiple clubs showing interest in him.
Ever since signing for Manchester United in 2015, Martial has not been able to perform consistently for the club. While he did have his moments with the Red Devils, the arrival of new signings Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho have further diminished his playing time.
NOT ABLE TO MEET THE POTENTIAL
The 26-year-old has been part of the Manchester United team for some time now. He has made 268 appearances across all competitions during this period, scoring 79 times and assisting 50.
Anthony Martial saw his best ever season with United in the 2019/20 campaign. In his 32 appearances that season in the Premier League, the French striker scored 17 times and assisted 7. He also scored 4 times in the Europa League that season. (all stats taken from Transfermarkt)
But the major criticism for Martial has been his inability to perform on a consistent basis. The 26-year-old often seem uninterested in-game when things did not happen for him. This had an effect on his playing time, which was further reduced with the arrival of new signings.
NEWCASTLE, BARCA, ARSENAL AND PSG INTERESTED IN ANTHONY MARTIAL
Anthony Martial has only made 10 appearances this season across all competition, with most of them coming from the bench. The player and his agent Philippe Lamboley seem to acknowledge this and are looking for a move away from Old Trafford.
Currently, 4 sides seem to be interested in bringing the French center forward. The first one is Newcastle United, which will be looking to make Martial their first key signing under the new Saudi ownership. But with other key areas of concern in the Newcastle squad, this move seems very unnecessary.
Arsenal is the other next side, who are in the market for a center-forward. The club targets Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic but could be ready to settle for Martial if the move didn’t materialize. Barcelona is another club monitoring Martial, with the Spanish side facing financial difficulties and an injury crisis in the forward area.
Finally, PSG is also in the mix, with the French side looking to bring Martial to his home nation. The report suggests PSG considers Anthony Martial to add strength to their forward line, with Kylian Mbappe closing in on a move to Real Madrid. However, this move seems unlikely, though stranger things have happened in the world of football.
With interest from different sides, it looks like Martial could be able to finally move away from Manchester United. The 26-year-old needs more playing time and a manager who can push him. He will need to make a careful decision as his next move will be very important for his career.
