Mohamed Elneny open to a new contract at Arsenal?

Arsenal

In a recent interview, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny confirmed that he is open to signing a new deal with the club.

The midfielder only recently returned to the starting lineup after not featuring for a while but he has looked in top form and was spectacular in the 3-1 victory over Manchester United and the 4-2 win over Chelsea in the league. Elneny has made a total of 12 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal this term. In this time he has recorded two assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)

While the midfielder has received plenty of stick and criticism during his time with the London side. But he has received a lot of love and applauds from the Arsenal faithful after his recent performances. He has deputized very well in the absence of the injured Thomas Partey.

Reports suggest that Mohamed Elneny is currently on a £52,500-a-week deal at the Emirates Stadium. The Egyptian’s contract is set to expire at the end of the next season.

“Of course. I always love a challenge”: Mohamed Elneny on his situation with Arsenal

Talking to The Independent’s Mark Mann-Bryans about a potential new contract with Arsenal, Mohamed Elneny said:

“Of course. I always love a challenge and give 100 per cent all the time.” “I don’t decide who plays but I keep going in training to show how good I am and to make him play me.”

“If I don’t play I keep going until I get my chance. If Arsenal say ‘we want you’ I don’t think about leaving. It’s my family for six years. I love this club.” he added.

Should Arsenal offer the midfielder a new contract?

Elneny has featured as a backup for most of the term. The midfielder is likely to move back on the bench after Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are both back fit. But with Arsenal, the favourites to finish in the top four of the league and return to Champions League football at the end of the season. Arsenal will certainly need a good amount of backup to finish the season on a high next term.

While Elneny has been linked with a move away from the Emirates over the summer, with a permanent switch to Turkey as the most likely outcome. The midfielder could certainly come in handy if Arsenal face any injury crises in the middle of the park next term.
