Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is leading the race to become the next Everton manager after the Merseyside club decided to sack Rafael Benítez as per the report in English outlet Mirror

The Spaniard joined the Goodison club in the summer and had a great start to the season. But, following the recent slumps where the Toffees have managed to win only two in 14 Premier League games. The Merseyside have decided to sack the former Liverpool boss.

According to the report, Everton is keen on bringing back Roberto Martinez as the successor of Benítez at Goodison Park. The 48-year-old was linked with a move to his former club in the summer. But at the last moment, the club hierarchy decided to appoint Rafael Benítez. And now after dismissing the 61-year-old, the Toffees have reignited their interest in the Belgium boss.

The report further claims that although Martinez is willing to take charge at Goodison Park. He is willing to stay in the Belgium job for the upcoming World Cup, given they are one of the favourites to win the trophy.

The 48-year-old is expected to join the Premier League side before the weekend’s game against Aston Villa. And he will join with his assistant coach Thierry Henry.

Should Everton appoint Roberto Martinez as the successor of Rafael Benítez?

Everton has made quite a few managerial changes over the past few campaigns. And every single manager had a different style of football. Therefore, the squad is stacked with different types of players.

Therefore, the club’s hierarchy should determine their objectives and find a manager who will excite the fans with an entertaining style of football. Giving him time to implement his philosophy in the squad will be the first step forward for the club.

The Toffees hierarchy has decided to go with a big names manager who had success in the past. But they haven’t had great success over the recent years. So, they should appoint a young manager who has the right mindset to take the club to challenge for the European places.

Although Martinez could be a good fit for the Toffees. It will be interesting to see if he will continue working as the manager for the club and country simultaneously or not. This will be a huge ask for any manager.

So, the Brighton boss Graham Potter should be the right name for the Merseyside club going forward. He has already showcased his managerial prowess at the Amex Stadium. And can do an even better job at Goodison Park.
