Manchester United would need to break the bank for Serie A striker

Manchester United

Manchester United are staring at a summer overhaul of the squad. United’s disastrous campaign comes to an end with only one league game remaining. But the planning for next season has already begun. Erik ten Hag will be welcomed and transfers will be planned with him. However, one department of the Red Devils which will surely get a new face is the striker. Manchester United are now being linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for a summer move.

Ralf Rangnick in his recent press conference revealed that he wanted to sign a striker in the winter market. Further on, he said that Dusan Vlahovich, Luis Diaz and Julian Alvarez were his options. However, the interim manager further added that United stopped him from signing a striker in January. But it seems Rangnick, who will take the role of consultant from next season onwards wants to get his hands on a striker in the summer.

As a result, Rangnick is hotly pursuing Osimhen as Napoli have agreed to part ways with the striker. However, Napoli have conveyed to Manchester United what it will take for them to sign the striker. The Serie A club signed the African striker in 2020 for a massive fee of £68 million from LOSC Lille. Napoli have heavily invested in Osimhen, and are looking to churn it out from his sale.

Manchester United told what they need to pay for the striker

Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport have reported that Manchester United have made the first contact with Napoli for the striker. Further on, the reports claim that Napoli have demanded a fee of £94 million to acquire the services of their forward. United will surely have to break the bank if they want to add Osimhen to their ranks.

However, there’s positive news for the Red Devils as well apart from Napoli’s demand for that mammoth fee. The Serie A club are ready to negotiate the fee, but won’t lower it too much. Therefore, Rangnick may just go and get his striker as the German is one of the best minds in the business.

Osimhen is being chased by United as a result of his exploits since joining Napoli. The 23-year-old has somewhat justified the £68 million price tag despite his injury problems. Since making the move in 2019, Osimhen has scored 27 and assisted 9 goals for Napoli in 60 appearances. This season, his tally marks up to 13 goals and 5 assists in 25 Serie A games.

Further on, Osimhen provides enough attacking threat as evident from his 3.5 shots, 2 shot-creating actions and 5.8 touches in the opposition’s penalty box per game. It’s uncertain whether Cristiano Ronaldo remains at United given there will be no Champions League for next season. Moreover, Edinson Cavani is set to leave the club as confirmed by several sources. Manchester United are therefore chasing the Napoli striker to bolster their attacking department.

Corriere Dello Sport further says that Napoli are anticipating Osimhen’s exit in the summer. As a result, the club is already looking for the striker’s replacement in the market. Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca is their first choice if Osimhen leaves for Old Trafford.
