Manchester United willing to offload star player in pursuit of Kieran Trippier

About Football Express UK

Manchester United are reportedly ready to offload Alex Telles to fund the Kieran Trippier deal, according to the report in Manchester Evening News

After making the move from FC Porto last October, the 28-year-old has had a tough time at Old Trafford. First team football was hard to come by for the Brazilian international following the revelation of Luke Shaw.

And the lack of rotation from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not help the left-back to settle down. Telles made only 24 appearances in all competitions last season which cost the defender a call up to the Brazilian national team for the Copa America 2021.

Will Manchester United sell Telles to fund the Kieran Trippier deal?

According to the report in Sky Sports, the Red Devils are looking for a deputy of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. And Manchester United boss Solskjaer identified Trippier as the main target for that role.

The report further claims that Atletico Madrid are reluctant to sell the 30-year-old who has two years left in his contract. However, if Manchester United want to bring the England international back to the Premier League. Then they will have to spend £43 million(€50 million).

On the other hand, according to the report in Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer’s side are willing to part ways with the new signing Alex Telles this summer to fund the Kieran Trippier deal. The 30-year-old full-back can play on either side and would provide competition for both Wan-Bissaka and Shaw.

The Kieran Trippier to Manchester United deal makes a lot of sense after what happened with Luke Shaw last season. However, it will not be a shrewd purchase if the Red Devils have to sell Telles.

Meanwhile, Trippier is already 30-year-old and investing £43 million on a fullback who will provide only a few more years at the top will not be a sensible deal to do for Manchester United.

It will be interesting to see what Manchester United decide to do regarding the Trippier deal. Will they backtrack from the deal after knowing the huge price tag and look for options elsewhere or stick with plan A? Strengthening the squad with an experienced campaigner is an extremely clever thing to do. But not at the expense of the other players.
