Manchester United will not sell McTominay

About Football Express UK

Manchester United will allegedly reject any transfer interest in Scott McTominay this summer. This is because Erik ten Hag regards him as an important element of the club’s rebuilding process.

McTominay is one of the few remaining central midfielders at Old Trafford after the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata. Following a breakthrough in discussions with Barcelona, McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek are likely to join Frenkie de Jong in Ten Hag’s team for next season.

United have negotiated an initial cost of £56 million for De Jong, which may rise to £70 million with add-ons. After Barca decided to sell, the 25-year-old Dutch international will sign a five-year contract for £250,000 per week at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is anxious to enhance this part of the club. Also, teenager James Garner is likely to be handed an opportunity in the first team after an outstanding 18 months on loan at Nottingham Forest. Furthermore, the deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong drawing closer.

Manchester United holds on to McTominay

De Jong’s signing will enhance competition for central midfield positions next season. This will have no effect on McTominay’s position in the team. Newcastle United and another Premier League team made preliminary questions regarding McTominay’s availability earlier in the summer window. However, they were turned down.

After the departures of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata, United are down to three senior midfielders. They are McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek.

Ten Hag is said to regard the Scotland international as a “pivotal” player. As a result, United will not accept proposals for the 25-year-old, who has three years left on his contract. McTominay came up through the United youth system. He has made 170 first-team appearances since making his debut in April 2017. Last season, he made 30 Premier League appearances. These were mostly as a defensive midfielder with Fred. He played under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
