Manchester United are under new management as Erik Ten Hag takes over the club. United have had a terrible season as they finish 6th in the league and miss Champions League football. United have had their worst season since Alex Ferguson left the club back in 2013. The Red Devils have finished the season with a zero-goal difference as they have conceded as much as they have scored. United have had their worst defensive display in years which could have been worse had it not been for David De Gea.
United looks to add players in several positions and at least a player in each part of the game. The Devils have so far shown interest in Frenkie De Jong. De Jong previously rejected a move to Old Trafford however is now open to a move. Moreover United have targeted Robert Lewandowski who has confirmed his departure from Bayern Munich.
Barcelona wants to ax De Jong
De Jong is leaving Barcelona as the Blaugrana are under a financial crisis. Barcelona wants to reduce their wage bill and restructure their club. Hence, Barcelona have made a list of players to be sold and De Jong is one among the many.
Barcelona have been improving under Xavi. Barcelona have been terrible in previous years as their whole club was turned upside down by then Club President Josep Bartomeu. Bartomeu had changed the club’s philosophy as they brought in high-profile players for a large sum. However, these players failed to live up to the mark and are down the pecking order or have been sold. Philippe Coutinho had a dry spell at Barcelona and was loaned to Bayern Munich, After which he was then sent on loan to Aston Villa and they have ended up signing him. Antoine Griezmann has ended up being sent on loan to Atletico after a poor first season at Barcelona. He has failed to live up to the expectations and is on the bench and likely to be sold in the near future.
This is not Barcelona’s legacy as they bring in certain players and are more focused on their developing their youngsters from La Masia. However, Barcelona are slowly reverting to their roots as Xavi is focusing on their heritage.
Moreover, Xavi wants to offload players that do not fit his vision and De Jong is not part of that. De Jong has not been able to find his feet at Barcelona yet. This has made the Barcelona board ax him. Although De Jong prefers to stay at Camp Nou as Barcelona is his dream club. However, Barcelona does not want to keep a player who is a liability.
Interests in Robert Lewandowski
Manchester United have shown interest in Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski had earlier confirmed his departure from Bayern Munich after almost a decade at the club.
Manchester United have lacked decent attacking options in the squad this season. With Mason Greenwood being left out of the club, Marcus Rashford being in terrible form, and Edinson Cavani being injured almost all season, Cristiano Ronaldo was the sole attacking option. United wants to add a striker to the squad who can bring in the goals.
Lewandowski has been in great touch and has been in great touch as he has been in for the last couple of years. He has scored almost 50 goals in all competitions in the season. However, Lewandowski is an aging player and it is likely he only has a couple more years to go. United should go for another younger option like Christopher Nkunku.
