Manchester United targeted a Portuguese defender for a low price.

Gonçalo Inácio

Manchester United are targeting Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio. 34 million pounds is his price tag. United are also ready to add further bonuses up to 4.5 million pounds. The player is also attracting interest from other Premier League clubs too. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants to bring his own players in and defense is an area that needs improvements. Matthijs de Ligt and Pau Torres are also reported targets for United and also Inacio as well.

He is a 20-year-old centre-back who wants to win major honors thus he is interested to join Manchester United.

Sporting wants to hold on to Manchester United’s target.

Sporting Lisbon won the Portuguese league in 2021. This makes them want to hold on to the player. They are waiting for his price to go up and then let him go. They are also waiting for the World Cup to end where they hope that Inacio’s price will rise. Even though Inacio have not made his senior debut for the Portuguese national team, there is a hope he might do so this World Cup. He is young and performing well thus we might see him soon. Also, Pepe and Jose Fonte, the two most trusted centre backs for Portugal, are close to 40 years and are running out of time.

Newcastle first caught sight of the player and tried to bid 25 million for him. However, the deal failed. The player further showcased his talents by scoring a long-range goal against Tondela. He wants to play for a team that will win big trophies and Manchester United are in that position and have that ambition. Newcastle and Wolves however are not in that same position. However, Inacio’s teammate has spoken slightly against the transfer.

He said

“It’s a very big difference in terms of competition, intensity, and everything else.” “(Inacio must) improve a little the level of aggression. I hope my worries don’t come true. He is not yet (ready for a big move). But when opportunities arise, they are to be grabbed.”
