Manchester United striker Hojlund gets advice from Van Persie

Manchester United

Rasmus Hojlund’s impressive form at Manchester United has sparked four consecutive victories across all competitions for the club. Initially slow under Erik ten Hag, the 21-year-old striker has now settled in and significantly improved. A reported consultation with Red Devils legend Van Persie seems to have played a pivotal role in his progress.

Van Persie, renowned for his tenure at United from 2012 to 2015, visited the club last week. The Dutchman, one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers in his time, reportedly imparted some of his wisdom to Hojlund.

As reported by The Athletic, Van Persie engaged in a lengthy conversation at Carrington before this weekend’s win against Aston Villa. True to form, Hojlund extended his scoring streak to five matches as United clinched a thrilling 2-1 victory. Ten Hag personally sanctioned Van Persie’s presence at the training ground, hoping that Hojlund will continue benefiting from his advice.

Van Persie amassed 144 Premier League goals during his stints with Arsenal and Manchester United. Seeking guidance from seasoned Premier League strikers to bolster his attacking lineup is a familiar strategy for Ten Hag.

Will Van Persie get a job at Old Trafford?

Upon his appointment at Old Trafford, the former Ajax boss enlisted ex-Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy. The South African was praised for his role in orchestrating Marcus Rashford’s impressive 30-goal tally last season.

Hojlund still has ground to cover before reaching that total, but his recent scoring streak has propelled him to 11 goals in all competitions, with five in the Premier League. Whether Van Persie returns to Old Trafford in a permanent coaching role after obtaining his UEFA Pro License remains uncertain.

Van Persie is presently engaging with Feyenoord as a senior team assistant and co-head coach in the youth ranks. Ten Hag may receive forgiveness for seeking assistance in training earlier this season when his side struggled in attack.
