Manchester United set to save upwards of £80m from its annual wage bill

Manchester United could save upwards of £80 million from their annual wage bill in the summer with a number of players leaving the club on a free transfer and a couple placed on the transfer list.

The red devils had one of the best transfer windows last summer. The club signed Raphaël Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer. The club were at a high and looking to fight on all fronts for all trophies available to them. But things have not gone to plan at all at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjær was sacked midway through the season and a European League finish is the best the club can hope for.

But with new manager, Erik Ten Hag set to take over in the summer. A major rebuild is anticipated around Manchester United in the summer. Reports suggest that upwards of ten players could leave the club. While interim manager Ralf Rangnick has suggested a lot of incomings as well. Ralf Rangnick has also suggested that it may take at least two to three transfer windows to get the club back to competing with the European elite.

Manchester United currently have the highest wage bill in the Premier League. United spends upwards of £208 million per year. This number tops the Premier League charts by quite a margin. But with the departures expected around Old Trafford at the start of next season. United are set to save upwards of £80 million on its annual wage bill.

Five stars set to leave for a free in the summer could save millions of Manchester United’s wage bill

Stars like Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, and Juan Mata are all set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer. French star Paul Pogba earns upwards of £275,000 a week. While Uraguian striker Cavani earns £250,000 per week. The likes of Matic, Lingard, and Mata who have barely played for Manchester United in recent seasons, earn upwards of £110,000 each. While Juan Mata who signed a contract extension just last year takes home £175,000 per week.

To add to the players leaving on a free. A number of United star names have also been named on the transfer market. Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are both not in Erik ten Hag’s plans. They are free to leave Manchester United. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are also on the verge leave the club in the summer. Newcastle United are scouting Dean Henderson who signed a new 100,000 a week last summer.
