Manchester United consider Roberto Mancini for managerial job

About Football Express UK

Manchester United are considering Italy manager Roberto Mancini for the managerial job. As of now, they have hired Ralf Rangnick as interim manager.

At the end of the season, Rangnick will move into a consultancy role and will also have a say in deciding the next manager. As of now, the favourite manager is Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United are seriously considering Italy manager Roberto Mancini.

Roberto Mancini won the Euro 2020 and he has a contract with Italy till 2026. He has also managed Manchester City in the past and has won 3 FA Cups, the Premier League title and the Community Shield.

Should Roberto Mancini leave Italy for Manchester United?

Italy as of now have not qualified for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. They will have to slug it out in the playoffs and will possibly face Portugal as well. Only one out of both teams can make it to Qatar.

Despite Italy’s struggles in the World Cup qualifiers, they have made good progress in the Nations League and of course in the Euros as well.

Italy won the 2020 Euros for the first time since 1968. They beat England in the final 3-2 on penalties in which Donnarumma made two important saves.

The Azzurri had a comparatively difficult route, as they faced Belgium and Spain to reach the finals. England on the other hand faced Germany and Ukraine. Though the English were great in the tournament they lost out against The Azzurri.

Italy faced Belgium in the Quarterfinals of the Euros in which they beat them 2-1. They even faced them again in the Nations League for contention for the third spot. The Azzurri again beat them 2-1.

After beating Belgium they faced Spain in the semifinals where they beat them narrowly on penalties. The Azzurri faced them again in the Nations League semi-final where they lost 1-2.

The whole point is that Italy has been consistent in the big games especially against big opponents. The current squad can tough it out in the playoffs as well as against the big teams in World Cup 2022 if they are to qualify.

Leaving Italy for Manchester United is to be fair a stupid decision since Italy’s current squad is way better. Their position in the future is also better as well in comparison to Manchester United.
