Manchester United have reached full agreement in place with Catalan giants FC Barcelona to sign Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
The Red Devils are hoping to complete the transfer as swiftly as possible so the midfielder could join the pre-season. Moreover, the de Jong saga has stretched for quite some time now making United frustrated about the transfer.
However, United have finally reached an agreement with Barcelona for the midfielder who is close to joining Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the player and made him his top priority this summer.
De Jong close to joining United
United have agreed to pay a fee of €75million with add-ons to the Blaugrana outfit for the midfielder. However, the Dutch ace does not seem too pleased with the offer placed by United ahead of the next season.
The fact that United will have to play Europa League football next season hasn’t gone down well with de Jong. Moreover, the squad does not seem to be in proper balance to complete at the highest level which is another factor.
That said, ten Hag has previously worked with the Barcelona midfielder at Ajax a few years ago. De Jong could be tempted to work under the Red Devils’ gaffer again at Old Trafford in the next season.
However, de Jong also values the level of the project demanded which is why he isn’t too please with United. On the other hand, Barcelona want to keep him but are forced to sell due to the financial fair play.
United are in need of strong midfield and with the inclusion of Christian Eriksen along with de Jong, it could be bolstered. It remains to be seen if the transfer eventually takes place, especially with the two parties agreeing to the offer.
