Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has suffered a fresh hamstring injury. Varane picked up the injury while playing for France in the Nations League match against Denmark.
The severity of the injury is unknown at the moment. However, a hamstring injury is likely to keep Varane on the bench and out of the Nations League. Varane has had a difficult year, one muddled with injuries. He hasn’t managed to keep himself fit hence he has had a lack of game time. He has missed 15 matches this season due to injuries. Varane has had injury problems throughout his career however this is the first time he missed the 30-match mark.
Erik Ten Hag’s United and Varane’s role
Erik Ten Hag is the Manchester United manager and will rebuild the squad. He is listing up targets at the moment, Frenkie De Jong is the first on his list. However, at the moment he intends to deal with the players who are out of contract. Moreover, he wants to discuss their roles at the club before the season starts.
Ten Hag wants new blood in the squad and wants at least a couple of defenders, A holding midfielder, and a striker before the new season.
Raphael Varane arrived at Old Trafford as one of the world’s best defenders. However, he has failed to live up to the mark in a disappointing season. The season was filled with injuries for Varane. The fresh injury to Varane will concern Ten Hag. United needs a backup center back if Varane gets injured again, which is extremely likely. Varane is a great defender and there is no doubt about it, however, he is very unreliable due to his injury troubles. Ten Hag needs to evaluate his choices and choose the best option, whether to keep Varane or sell him.
