Manchester United are putting priority on a midfielder instead of Darwin Nunez. Erik ten Hag has decided that he needs to chase a midfielder instead of target Darwin Nunez. He has placed the importance of a central midfielder as the priority.
Manchester United leaving Nunez alone?
Since Darwin Nunez has expressed his interest in going to Liverpool and a deal of 85 million is reached, Manchester United is losing interest in him. Liverpool may get the striker in the coming weeks. Although Manchester United are still in the race and are trying to rescue the deal, Erik ten Hag is looking at other options. Ten Hag wants to replace Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic. Thus, he is in the market for a central midfielder.
This central midfielder is also to be from Benfica. Even though Nunez is a big target, Ten Hag wants quality cover in his midfield area. Currently, only Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, and Fred are the only options who can play midfield. Ten Hag might have to promote a youth player to play the midfield role. Thus the need for a central midfielder is of paramount importance. Also, Donny van de Beek has returned from a poor loan time at Everton and McTominay and Fred have been poor. None of Manchester United’s midfielders have performed well this season. They are in desperate need for a new midfielder.
Frenkie de Jong is heavily linked to Manchester United and they are looking to bring him in as well. He is very much needed to provide some quality cover in the defensive midfield area. Also, Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers is being looked at.
At this point in time, there are so many midfielders who are being looked at by Manchester United, that it is difficult to point out which one is going to make it to the arrivals at Old Trafford stadium.
