Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Boubacar Kamara from Marseille.
The 22-year-old has played a key role for Marseille last season, making 20 appearances and scoring one goal. He also has a total of 141 appearances for them since 2016.
Boubacar has a contract with Marseille till next June and Manchester United are amongst many top clubs monitoring him.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United are keen on initiating a pre-contract with Boubacar at the start of 2022. The report also states that FC Barcelona, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle and Bayern Munich are all interested.
How will Ralf use Boubacar at Manchester United?
The Red Devils have struggled a lot over the years and their main issue was the defensive midfield issue. Currently, Fred and Mctominay play in that position. Both have struggled and underperformed but under Ralf, Fred has improved significantly.
Boubacar can play instead of Mctominay along with Fred who can hopefully continue to display great performances for the club.
When comparing the three midfielders, Boubacar tops Fred and Mctominay in many stats. He is better in goal creating actions, aerial duel win rate and press success rate as well. Despite taking into account the different playstyles of both Manchester United and Marseille, Kamara has provided great performances.
Kamara is a ball winner, he can easily intercept passes, win duels and press efficiently. He has a great first touch especially under pressure which allows him to escape dangerous situations. The 21-year-old is great in ball retention and dribbling as well.
He ranks in the top 25 percent for ball retention and ball-winning amongst ten U-23 midfielders.
However, for every talented prospect, there are some weaknesses as well. Kamara often hinders progressive attacks. His continued and at times unnecessary dribbling often gives the opponents time to regroup and press again. In such a situation, he lays it off to a player in a dangerous position with minimal angle. His passing range is also not that great and cannot provide precise long balls.
Excluding a few weaknesses, Boubacar is definitely an all-rounded midfielder with great talent and can be a valuable asset for Manchester United.
