Manchester United lining up a move for Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo

PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo seems to be the target of interest from many clubs. These include Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and most recently, Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag looks to remedy his lack of attacking options, and his fellow countryman Gakpo may provide a solid answer.

Manchester United has few options currently in the final third of the field. Antony Martial’s injuries and Ronaldo’s questionable future has left new manager Ten Hag desperate to boost his attack. Many names have sprung up recently.

Ajax’s Antony was linked to United since the start of the window. Although United seems to be unable to pay the £70m fee the Dutch giants are asking for the Brazilian international. Most recently, Marko Arnautovic has been linked, but the English club have reportedly dropped their interest in the Bologna forward.

How will Cody Gakpo fit into United?

United’s interest in Gakpo seems to be genuine. The 23-year-old’s ability to play in various forward roles is attractive to the English side. While PSV are reluctant to let go of a key player, they are willing to accept his departure if a large offer comes.

The Dutch International came through PSV‘s youth system and made his first-team debut in 2018. He has been in impressive form lately. In the 2021-22 season, he scored 21 goals and 15 assists through 47 appearances in all competitions.

There were links between Arsenal and Gakpo. However, new reports say that the North London club’s interests lie in Villereal’s 19-year-old Yeremi Pino.

Manchester United are also close to signing Adrian Rabiot from Juventus. They are also apparently still interested in longtime target Frenkie de Jong.
