Manchester United keeping other targets apart from the Ajax duo under the hat

Manchester United

The summer transfer window officially opened a couple of weeks ago, and Manchester United are yet to make a signing. Moreover, heavy business is expected at Old Trafford under new manager Erik ten Hag. Though United have identified multiple targets there is no progress as such in the market from the Red Devils. But it is none other than Fabrizio Romano who may have found out the reason for the same.

United are heavily pursuing Ajax duo Antony and Justin Timber at the moment. Ten Hag wants a reunion with his former players and is pushing for their moves. While Ajax have no intention to part ways with the duo, a lucrative offer would be enough to change their mind. Further on, United could ‘splash the cash’ in Ten Hag’s first summer on their targets.

According to multiple reports, United have reached a £40 million deal for Antony. The winger wants to play at Old Trafford under his former manager, while Ajax are also happy with the fee. The deal isn’t yet complete, but Antony could become Ten Hag’s first signing at United. On the other hand, United are in advanced talks for Justin Timber as well with his agent. Ajax have demanded £36 million for the center-back which United are ready to pay.

£111 million pair among other United targets

Though it looks as if it would only cost United around £80 million for Antony and Timber’s acquisition, Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has suggested something else. According to Verweij, the package for both the players could reach up to £111.5 million. The amount may include add-ons and other incentives. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano however claims that United have more targets in the pipeline.

The Italian journalist believes United have lined up a number of targets to pursue this summer. While talking to GIVEMESPORT Romano said,

“I’m sure that there are other targets that they want to try to keep secret as part of the market. I would say that these are not the only names for Manchester United. I’m sure that they are working on many possibilities.”

As evident, United are applying a new strategy in the transfer market for their targets. The Red Devils do not intend to disclose the names they are pursuing. But Romano may have got it ‘spot on’ with his claims. United have many players on their wish list and are negotiating deals for them as well.

The Red Devils’ priority man other than the Ajax duo is Barcelona’s, Frenkie de Jong. The Red Devils are pushing as hard as they can to acquire the former player of Ten Hag. United have improved their bid to £55 million from the initial offer of £51 million, but Barcelona are firm on their £64 million asking price. Furthermore, other targets of United include Brentford playmaker Christian Eriksen, Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann and Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.
