Ever since Erik ten Hag has been appointed as the new Manchester United boss, a lot of his former players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Right from the ones who are still at Ajax to the ones who left years ago. Ten Hag now wants Brazilian winger Antony at United. The Ajax player has flourished at Ajax since joining the club in 2020. Moreover, Ten Hag too has played a crucial role in Antony’s development at the Eredivisie club. United have outlined certain positions that will be bolstered, and the right-wing is one of them.
Ten Hag is a poaching man of his former players to join his project at United. Ajax center-back Jurian Timber is also on the United manager’s wish list. Further on, former Ajax players Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong who once played under Ten Hag at Ajax are also being pursued. Antony adds to the list of players who are in for a potential reunion with Ten Hag at United. Antony is attracting a host of Europe’s top clubs after two successful seasons at Ajax. Further reports claim that the 22-year-old is also open to a transfer this summer.
United open talks with representatives of Antony
United are taking huge strides under Erik ten Hag as the club desperately wants to return to its glory days. The Dutchman has been given full control of the transfers to sign players that fit his system. Antony is now on his radar and has asked United to wrap up a deal as soon as possible. Ten Hag plans to strengthen the wings as Jadon Sancho is currently the only in-form player he has in that position. Anthony Elanga is also a promising talent but is less experienced.
As a result, United have made contacts with Antony and his agents over a move according to Goal. The Red Devils understand that Ajax are ready to sell the winger as well. Over the next few weeks, United hopes to continue the negotiations over a fee and personal terms with the player. United believes it will not be difficult to reach an agreement since Antony also appears keen on joining the club.
United will reportedly have to pay £51 million for Antony as conveyed by Ajax. Though the Brazilian market value stands at £31 million, Ajax feels their player is worth more than that. However, United are ready to pay the amount as they fully trust in the talent of the winger. That is evident from the numbers he has racked up for the Dutch side this season. Antony has contributed to a spectacular 22 goals in just 33 games for Ajax this season, which include 10 goals and 12 assists.
He further posts 4.1 shots, 4.5 shot-creating actions, 3.6 crosses, and a massive 6.5 touches in the opponent’s penalty box per 90. That tells enough about the attacking threat offered by the youngster. United share a healthy relationship with Ajax given their past deals and United legend Edwin Van Der Sar being the Dutch club’s CEO. The Red Devils plan to take further advantage of the same in striking a deal for Antony.
