Manchester United could miss out on Frenkie De Jong as the midfielder intends to stay at Camp Nou. United have been on De Jong’s trail for a while now. Ever since Erik Ten Hag came in, he had made De Jong as his priority signing. It has been two months since United have been in the race and the situation remains unchanged.
Barcelona have been trying to offload a couple of players in the Summer as they are under a financial crisis. Moreover, their wage structure is off balance as they brought in several players in the Summer including that of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha and Jules Kounde is on his way as well. However, Barcelona are under risk of not being able to register their player for the Summer. As such, Barcelona needs to sell their players and De Jong is one on the list.
De Jong has been out of favor at Barcelona due to inconsistent performances on the pitch. Moreover, Xavi does not prefer him as he uses Pedri. Pedri has been the find of the decade for Barcelona as he notches up top performances. De Jong is an extra addition to the squad and one that eats up the wages. Although Xavi has said he intends to play De Jong as a center back in the team which is an indication that he is not wanted in the team.
Manchester United are desperate for the midfielder although De Jon intends to stay at Barcelona. Barcelona had informed De Jong earlier that he has to take a pay cut if he intends to stay with the Catalan Giants. De Jong has agreed to take the pay cut and this means United should forget about their chances Although they remain confident.
