Manchester United 3-2 Arsenal: Post-match analysis

About Football Express UK

Manchester United came away victorious against Arsenal by 3-2 at Old Trafford in an important fixture in the Premier League

The visitors started the game brightly and went ahead in a controversial manner thanks to the contribution of Emile Smith Rowe. However, the Red Devils scored the equaliser just before the interval and looked good after conceding the first. In the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo gave the lead to Michael Carrick’s side but the lead didn’t last long as Martin Odegaard levelled the game soon after.

However, a bad challenge from the Norwegian midfielder helped United to earn a penalty with the help of the VAR and Cristiano Ronaldo made no mistake to convert from the spot.

Manchester United 3-2 Arsenal:

After scoring a brace on Thursday night, the Portuguese forward has scored the 800th career goal for club and country. The 36-year-old is the first player in the game’s history to achieve this feat.

On the other hand, after the game, Manchester United’s caretaker boss Michael Carrick surprisingly resigned and decided to leave the club and Ralf Rangnick will start his tenure from the next game.

Following this victory, Manchester United moved up to seventh place with 21 points from 14 games, three points behind the fourth-placed West Ham United. On the other hand, Arsenal remained in the fifth spot with 23 points in as many games.

After the game speaking on the club’s website Michael Carrick was asked about his decision to step down. He said:

“It wasn’t an easy decision by any stretch. Anyone that knows me knows how much I love the club. When you’re here you’ve got to dedicate everything and my life has revolved around this place for so long. I did promise my family when I finished playing we’d have some time to spend together and that never happened because I jumped into the coaching role.”

“As things pan out, things happen for a reason and it felt natural to make that decision. It wasn’t easy but I’m not going anywhere. I’ll still be around supporting the boys here and away. My son’s desperate to go to the away days, supporting the boys. I’ve told them I’m doing that and I’ll be supporting them. But yeah it’s the right thing to do for me and my family.”

The upcoming fixtures for both teams:

Manchester United will welcome Crystal Palace in their next game on Sunday evening in the Premier League and Arsenal will travel to Liverpool to encounter Everton on Monday night.
