About Football Express UK

Manchester City have officially announced the transfer of striker Julian Alvarez from River Plate and is set to take the No. 19 kit.

The Argentine international has been one of the hottest prospects in world football. However, the blue side of Manchester have obtained his signature ahead of the next season and will have him at Etihad.

Alvarez played made over 100 appearances netting the ball 55 times during his stint with River Plate. Manchester City have made yet another important signing in the wonderkid after signing Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Alvarez to carry Argentine legacy at City

Argentines have had a special connection with Manchester City even prior to the striker’s move.

Carlos Tevez, Willy Caballero, Nico Otamendi, Zabaleta, and Sergio Aguero have all part of the legacy at City during their stints. Now, Alvarez will look to carry that Argentine legacy and create the impact that the others have.

Alvarez will hope to replicate the career of the most notable club legend and top scorer, Sergio Aguero. Leaning into his nickname ‘Spider’, the club shared on Twitter a relatable emoji for the player.

Alvarez’s brother, Agu gave an insight into how Alvarez got the name. In a video, he said-

“Since he was five years old everyone already called him Spider.

Julian Alvarez also reacted to this and said-

“Some friends suggested it because my nickname is Spider and I did it.”

Now, with the arrival of the ‘Spider’ striker, City have added great depth up front in the attack. An exciting season awaits the Sky Blues as they look to defend their title with the new signings.

The club and fans will be excited to see Alvarez working under the likes of Pep Guardiola the coming season.
