Manchester City vs Dortmund, Season’s toughest match, Defence is out due to Injuries

The Champions Manchester City will face Borussia Dortmund in the UCL group stages matches but also face Injuries. The 124th season of the English Premier League season is underway. Reigning Premier League and putting their name on the list, who won the title thrice in a row, will be the City’s main target this season. Manchester City will be going all out to win their third straight Premier League title for the 2022-23 season.

The English Club needs to remain at the summit of Barclays Premier League so as to bid and secure their fifth English crown in six seasons. The hunger to win titles can be seen through City’s mindset in their last two seasons. Asr the club under the management of Pep Guardiola conquered the English throne in the last two years.  

City kicked off this season too well. City won 5 out of their 7 opening matches of this season. But, surprisingly enough, they played draws to Newcastle United and Aston Villa. In the Summer transfer, the German boss brought in Erling Haaland, Stefan Ortega, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez as well as Manuel Akanji.

But as everything was going well for the champions, some players were sidelined due to injuries. Moreover, the injuries came in as they were to face the German powerhouse Dortmund in the UCL group stages. A sudden turn of events made the City manager worried about their start in UCL.

John Stones – City’s Wall.

The 28-years-old Englishman is sidelined due to a knock he suffered in the recent games. Which is causing problems for John Stones.

Nathan Ake – Dutch Control-line.

The 27-years-old Dutchman is out due to a groin problem. Which he suffered last month against City’s travel to Newcastle United. Nonetheless, he returned in the 1 – 1 draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park. But there is a surety that he will be present for City in their upcoming matches.

Aymeric Laporte – Powerful defender.

The 28-years-old Spaniard is making his return after his knee surgery took place in the summer. The Spanish centre-back is not sure to make his arrival for the UCL match. Moreover, Laporte may return after the international break.

Kyle Walker – English Run-Machine.

The 32-years-old Englishman is out of the Starting XI against Dortmund. Due to his knock against Aston Villa. City manager Pep Guardiola said,

“Kyle is not much too, but I don’t know if he will be ready for Saturday, or Dortmund or Wolves before the international break.”

Kalvin Phillips – Lynchpin Midfielder.

The 26-years-old Englishman didn’t quite get the start that he and City fans were expecting from him. The midfielder from starting had injuries and is most likely to be unavailable for City in their UCL match against Dortmund.

Jack Grealish – Old-School Midfielder

The 27-years-old Englishman missed out on the opening 4 matches of the 2022 – 2023 season for City. Due to injuries and may be out in the City’s international meetings with Dortmund in the UCL group stage.
