Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette could be on the move this January. The latest side to show interest in the French striker is English champions Manchester City.
According to Fichajes, Lacazette is now linked with a shock move to Manchester City. As per the reports, City wants to strengthen their forward position this January and Lacazette could be a quick fix.
Lacazette will have his contract with Arsenal come to an end in the summer of 2022. The 30-year-old shows no signs of renewing his contract and Arsenal do not want him to leave for free. But interest from Manchester City has come as a surprise with Pep Guardiola’s side previously linked with the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
ARSENAL TO MOVE ON FROM LACAZETTE
The French forward has been a main part of the Arsenal side in the past 4 years. However, his playing time has been diminishing especially after the arrival of manager Mikel Arteta. This season Lacazette has only appeared 6 times in the league, with most of them coming off from the bench.
Arsenal also is looking to sign a new centre-forward with both Lacazette and Piere-Emerick Aubameyang now in their 30s. The club are linked with Dusan Vlahovic of Fiorentina and Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad. Thus selling Lacazette could free up funds for their transfer activity.
LACAZETTE A SHORT TERM OPTION FOR MANCHESTER CITY
Manchester City wanted to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer. But with Spurs not willing to sell the English forward, the club decided not to sign any new forwards. The Premier League champions hence only have Gabriel Jesus as their recognised centre-forward, with Sergio Aguero leaving to Barcelona in the summer.
Even then, manager Guardiola has been using Jesus in the wing and utilising other players likes Phil Foden as a false nine. But with Manchester City eyeing to win their first-ever Champions League and with Premier League being more competitive, the club is now looking to add a striker to the team in January.
While Manchester City are in search of a long term target, they could settle for Lacazette as a short term fix. The French forward has enough Premier League experience and can fit more easily into the fluid Guardiola system. Most importantly he can provide an extra option from the bench for the remainder of the season, while the club continue their search for a long term option.
However, Arsenal would demand a decent fee for Lacazette, something City won’t mind. Yet the question that will be asked is whether Manchester City would want to go for Lacazette when they could go all out for other talents.
