Manchester City: Julian Alvarez was approached by many clubs on loan and denied!

About Football Express UK

Manchester City signed River Plate striker Julian Alvarez permanently in January. He was to stay at his club until 31 December. However, in a quick change of events, Alvarez will be joining the City squad in pre season.

Julian Alvarez is relatively young and Guardiola has a niche to loan out players until they gain enough experience to start in his squad. However, Guardiola does not intend to send Alvarez on loan as City have rejected offers from multiple clubs.

City chief Soriano confirmed that they received offers from many clubs however they rejected them all.

“We have had many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez – but he is not going to leave, He will do pre-season with us and I think he will stay.”

Moreover Soriano also denied that Barcelona were one of the teams to offer a deal. “Barcelona? No, Barcelona were not among those who were interested”.

Guardiola’s failed European runs

It seems as if Guardiola is cooking up something big for next season. Guardiola probably intends to bring the Champions League to Etihad, Something he has been unable to do in half a decade. In fact, Guardiola was brought into the club to bring European glory to the club, however, has failed on each occasion.

City had a disappointing end in their first outing with Guardiola as Liverpool won 5-1 on aggregate in 2017/18. The next season City were even more unlucky as Tottenham won 4-4 on away goals in 2018/19. The 2019/20 season had a single match in the knockout fixtures. City ended up losing to Lyon of all teams 3-1. The 2020/20 season was the furthest Guardiola has been able to reach with City as they reached the final.

However, Guardiola was unable to enjoy the sweet taste of success as Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game for Chelsea. This time around they were knocked out by Real Madrid as they scored twice in the final minutes of the game. Karim Benzema added salt to the wound as he scored in extra time to send Madrid into the final.

Guardiola would be aware of his shortcomings and would be hopeful for the next season considering they just signed Erling Haaland.
