Where should Jack Grealish play for Manchester City?

About Football Express UK

Manchester City signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a record £100 million. The England international flourished at Aston Villa over the years and was linked to many European clubs.

Jack Grealish had a central role(midfield role) at Aston Villa but things have changed at Manchester City. Not only Jack Grealish but Pep Guardiola has to take into account the best position for each of his players.

Gabriel Jesus has expressed his desire to play as a winger. Pep would like Foden to also play upfront until they sign a striker.

This implies that Foden also plays well as a winger and also upfront. Riyad Mahrez and Ferran Torres are also taken into consideration. Summing up, Manchester City has 3 world-class wingers, Jack Grealish and an out of form Sterling.

As of now, Grealish is playing from the left because Pep’s go-to choice Sterling is out of form. So far he has 2 goals and 3 assists for the club. As soon as City signs a striker, Foden will play as a winger and Grealish will operate centrally.

Was the Jack Grealish transfer to Manchester City necessary?

Manchester City splashed £100 million for Grealish but they already had world-class wingers and midfielders. The Cityzens made it to the UCL final last season where they eventually lost out to Chelsea. The fans analysed that City lost and was dominated because there was no DM present in the match. Pep Guardiola chose not to play Rodri or Fernandinho.

The CDM position is the only position where City does not have much depth. Fernandinho is 36 years and is close to retiring. As of now, Rodri is the only option.

It is also true that Grealish can succeed at the club and be of great use in the future. But The Cityzens already have players better than Grealish both for the present and the future.

What they do not have is a defensive midfielder. When the transfer window opens, even Manchester City will find it difficult to splash around £100 million for a DM as they did for Grealish.

It can arguably be said that Aston Villa also got a great part of the deal. They bought Leon Bailey and Danny Ings with that money. Despite that The Villans are 16th on the table.
