Manchester City forward Ferran Torres to join FC Barcelona

About Football Express UK

FC Barcelona has feigned interest in Manchester City forward Ferran Torres for the past few months.

Xavi Hernandez had prioritised the signing of Ferran over Dani Olmo for Barcelona because of his superior goal scoring record.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal was completed for a fee of £55 million.

As per various sources, Ferran has signed a five-year contract with Barcelona and could be presented on Tuesday. However, the ex Valencia forward is facing an injury and will possibly be in action on January 13th in a league match against Rayo Vallecano.

Ferran will wear the number 25 for Barcelona since the La Liga rules require newly registered players to wear a number between 1-25. He may don the number 11, once worn by many club legends such as Hagi, Bojan, Neymar, Rivaldo and many more.

Currently, Yusuf Demir wears the number 11 and Ferran can only wear it if Yusuf leaves.

Pep Guardiola’s comments on the transfer of Ferran Torres to Barcelona

I want happiness in my players. If you are not happy, you have to leave. We are not a club where presidents and CEOs say ‘no you have to stay’.

“The players and clubs have to agree, this is business, but if the player wants to leave, they go.

“It’s not just Ferran, it’s everyone. If you want to leave because you will be happier in another place, you have to go.

“The career for a football player is short. If he wants to leave, and the clubs have an agreement, I am happy for him.”

Is Ferran Torres the key to solving the goal scoring drought at Barcelona?

Ferran Torres has previously played in La Liga with Valencia. He has been brought up there and is familiar with the league. In 2020 Manchester City only paid £20 million for him and he has performed quite well.

The Spaniard has scored 17 goals in 42 appearances for the Cityzens. He has provided an even more impressive performance for Spain, scoring 12 goals in 22 appearances.

The youngster is very versatile and can play as a LW/RW and a striker as well. He came in the clutch against Italy in the Nations League semi-finals where he scored a brace against Italy playing as a striker.

Currently, Barcelona needs a goalscorer with Ansu Fati facing injury, perhaps Ferran can prove himself to be better than the number 10.
