Six Manchester City players in the team were selected for the PFA Premier League team of the year. Whereas defending champions, Liverpool have only one player listed for this prestigious award.
The Cityzens are joined by rivals, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur as the other clubs have no representatives at all. Chelsea, who won the Champions League, also doesn’t feature any of their players.
The Manchester club won their fifth title after a comeback in the remaining 19 fixtures. They were 13th towards the first round of fixtures. Only position they couldn’t dominate was the offensive department.
Manchester City masterclass in the Premier League
A blockbuster season in the Premier League finally comes to an epic climax as Manchester City winning the title. The Red Devils finished second whereas Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool went ahead of Chelsea and Leicester City to a surprising third place.
All these three clubs were once out of the race for finishing even in the 7th position towards the first half of the season. But, surprisingly, they fought it to the top three. As a result, Ederson, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Joao Cancelo, Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan made it to the squad.
The biggest highlights were the emergence of Dias and Stones as one of the best centre-back pairings in the league as well as Gundogan rediscovering his lost form. Despite they lost to Chelsea in the Champions League final, they were surely one of the best sides in Europe. Here’s the PFA Premier League Team of the Year 2021 :
Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur had three players namely, Bruno Fernandez, Luke Shaw, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min. Mohamed Salah made it to the team after his stellar goalscoring form.
