Liverpool transfer bulletin: Nunez deal almost wrapped up; Mane on the verge of an exit

Liverpool Manuel

The summer transfer window is officially open and clubs are picking up pace in closing deals for top targets. Liverpool are not lagging behind either and gearing up to conduct serious business in the market. Moreover, the Reds may have already completed a deal for one of Europe’s hottest prospects in the market. On the other hand, the Merseyside club will also facilitate some painful exits this summer. Nonetheless, expect more thrills and spills over the next few weeks as we bring you the latest transfer news from the Liverpool camp.

Benfica confirm Nunez’s Liverpool transfer

Ever since Benfica made Darwin Nunez available on the market, a host of clubs lined up to acquire the striker. However, Liverpool have triumphed in convincing the 22-year-old for a transfer. Liverpool have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Nunez this summer. The Portuguese side has confirmed the same with an official statement as well. Nunez scored a staggering 34 goals in 41 games for Benfica last season, landing him on the radar of top European clubs. Manchester United were also in the race to sign him, however, the player himself wanted a move to Liverpool.

The Reds have agreed on a fee of £64 million with add-ons of around £21 million with Benfica for Nunez. Should Benfica receive the full £85 million from Liverpool, Nunez would then become the Reds’ record transfer, beating Virgil van Dijk. Here is what the official statement from Benfica says,

“In the early morning hours of this Monday, Sport Lisboa e Benfica informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool FC for the sale of all rights to the player Darwin Nunez, for the amount of €75 million. The agreement provides for the payment of a variable remuneration, so the global amount of the sale could reach the amount of €100 million.”

Sadio Mane is close to securing a Bayern Munich move

Since Sadio Mane’s exit became an official matter, Bayern Munich have been leading the race to sign him. Further on, Mane himself wants a transfer to Bayern, putting an end to his Liverpool career. The Reds too have accepted the winger’s decision and are now negotiating with Bayern for his transfer. Mane too has agreed on personal terms with the Bundesliga side since both the parties wanted the move to happen. However, a fee is the only issue that stands between Mane and Bayern.

Liverpool have put a price tag of £42 million on Mane and will not listen to anything less for a transfer to take place. Liverpool have even rejected Bayern’s two bids which didn’t meet the Merseyside club’s demands. Nonetheless, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that all parties are calm as Bayern are preparing a new, improved bid. The Bavarians are tipped to fork out the £42 million wanted by Liverpool this time. Mane will depart Liverpool having won 6 trophies at the club while scoring 120 goals in 269 appearances.

Gerrard wants a Liverpool midfielder at Aston Villa

Another player actively looking for a transfer away from Liverpool is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The midfielder is understood to have finally anticipated that his time at the club is over. As a result, Oxlade-Chamberlain is seeking a move away and a couple of clubs have registered their interest in him as well. While Manchester United are surprisingly a name among the clubs interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aston Villa have also joined the race. Liverpool signed Chamberlain back in 2017 from Arsenal for a fee of £34 million.

However, the 28-year-old has found himself pushed down the pecking order at Liverpool. The Reds are stacked with exceptional talent in the midfield in Fabinho, Thiago, Naby Keita, and academy graduate Curtin Jones. Further on, constant injuries limited Oxlade-Chamberlain’s playing time at the club as well. As a result, the midfielder will seek regular playing minutes somewhere else with Steven Gerrard keen on landing him at Villa. Football Insider report that the Midlanders are strong contenders to sign Chamberlain as Liverpool wants only £10 million for a transfer. In his five years at the club, Chamberlain has played 133 games, scoring 17 goals and further assisting 15.
