Liverpool to offer compensation to Bundesliga toppers to replace manager

March Brighton Liverpool

Liverpool are now set to offer a compensation package to Bayer Leverkusen. They want to place a bid to replace Jurgen Klopp with Xabi Alonso. That is according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato.

A recent story from Foot Mercato claimed that Alonso is keen to replace Klopp after the Reds approached the Spaniard.

Now – after hearing that – Liverpool are preparing a compensation package to lure the man from Tolosa out of his contract with Bayer Leverkusen.

Aouna wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Xabi Alonso is at the top of Liverpool and Bayern Munich for next season. Liverpool made a first approach to Xabi Alonso who is keen on a move in England.

“The Reds are ready to send a bid to Leverkusen in the next weeks”.

It remains to see that how much money Bayer Leverkusen will charge Liverpool in terms of compensation.

Alonso is in contract with the Bundesliga leaders until July 2026.

Liverpool to offer compensation to Leverkusen for Xabi Alonso:

As Aouna states, Alonso is also a target for Bayern Munich, with Thomas Tuchel leaving the Allianz Arena this summer.

While the 42-year-old wants a move to Liverpool, as aforesaid, the Reds could find themselves spending more on his appointment. If Bayern Munich offer Bayer Leverkusen a larger compensation bid.

A bidding war for a manager is not something to witness often in football. Although that is exactly what we could have on our hands this summer.

If Bayern Munich do somehow manage to convince Alonso to ignore Liverpool, the Reds could turn to Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP . Moreover, Tuchel himself is also believed to be keen on taking over at Anfield.
