Liverpool: Salah and Van Dijk to miss Southampton fixture as Klopp gives Pre-Match presentation

March Brighton Liverpool

Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk suffered injuries during the FA cup final against Chelsea. Liverpool ended up winning the match on penalties 6-5 as the match ended in a goalless draw.

Jurgen Klopp spoke about Van Dijk and Salah’s availability for the match. He also mentioned Fabinho‘s recovery as well.

“Virgil and Mo won’t be involved at Southampton, The target for both of them is that they could be involved at the weekend – either from the start or from the bench. But there’s no doubts about the Champions League. Fabinho is doing very well but he won’t be involved tomorrow.

They are pretty much sleeping on the massage beds! We have a lot of decisions to make. The extra 30 minutes at Wembley made a big difference but we have to see who can help.

We have to be really careful, that’s clear. We don’t finish the season tomorrow, it’s not our last game of the season, that would be different. Southampton’s last game was 10 days ago. They are completely fresh and full of energy. We cannot go there and fall into this game like: ‘Oh my God, what’s going on here?’

Imagine we go there with 10 or eight players, who played 120 minutes. That makes no sense, so that’s why we have to make changes. I don’t know how many, we will see and I will talk to the players, obviously, but that’s tough.

What I can promise is that we will line up a team for one reason: to try to win the game at Southampton. As difficult as it is. Because that obviously is the job to do.”

Liverpool have two more games and one big match in the form of the Champions League final. They need the best players in their absolute best form if they are to win against the likes of Real Madrid.
