Liverpool player ratings for 2-0 win in the Merseyside derby

Liverpool

Liverpool move within one point of league leaders Manchester City yet again with a 2-0 win over Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Frank Lampard set his team out to defend quite narrow and deep while breaking fast on the counter attack. The plan did work as Liverpool were finding it quite hard to create any chances in the first phase. While Antony Gordon was running the show down the left flank. But he got booked for diving inside the box in the first half. Everton used every opportunity to slow the pace of the game down and waste time.

Everton continued with their game plan in the second half. But Andrew Robertson did open proceedings in the 62nd minute with a header at the back post. While at the other end Antony Gordon went down inside the box from a Joël Matip challenge. The challenge did look like a penalty but nothing was given by the ref or VAR. Jurgen Klopp brought on Divock Origi and the striker continued his impressive goal form against Everton at Anfield.

Liverpool player ratings

Alisson 6

Alisson had nothing to do for the entire game. He got away from a dodgy clearance in the second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 5

Antony Gordon gave the right-back a torrid time and Trent looked very suspect in one vs ones against the Everton attack.

Joel Matip 7

Matip defended quite well against the Everton attack. But he lacked quality while in possession.

Virgil van Dijk 8

The Dutch centre-half was on top form yet again and he used his pace quite well when balls were pitched over the defence.

Andy Robertson 9

Roberston opened the scoring with a brilliant header at the back post in the Merseyside derby and he was brilliant going forward and defending.

Fabinho 7

Kept recycling the ball again and again in the whole game.

Thiago 7

Thiago displayed his impressive passing range yet again in the middle of the park. He also made a couple of tackles.

Naby Keita 6

Keita had a very average game and he was replaced in the second half by club captain Jorden Henderson.

Mohamed Salah 7

Salah had a very quiet game compared to his usual standards.

Diogo Jota 6

Jota started on the left side of the attack rather than the middle. But did not have any real impact on proceedings.

Sadio Mane 6

Just like Jota, Mane did not have any real impact on proceedings and struggled against the low block Everton.
