Liverpool medical department error, admits Dominik Szoboszlai

March Brighton Liverpool

The Hungarian recently came back from injury after missing six games in all competitions. Dominik injured his hamstring in the 4-1 win over Chelsea. Liverpool’s medical department was heavily criticised due to long list of injuries in the squad. However, when the Hungarian returned to the squad, he re-aggravated his hamstring injury. Bringing more criticism on the Liverpool medical staff for rushing Szoboszlai to fitness. The backlash from the fans was majorly due to the timing of the season. It is a crucial time for Liverpool as they are competing for important trophies. And a medical error in managing player’s fitness can cost a lot for any club. Several key players of the Reds’ squad were on the sidelines due to fitness issues at the same time. Klopp managed to breeze past Chelsea in the Carabao Cup Final but was held to a 1-1 draw with Man City.

Even Szoboszlai admits error of judgement by Liverpool staff

While talking to Liverpool’s official website, the Hungarian said,

“After my first injury [in January] maybe it was a quick comeback. So, we learned from it and now I was not in a rush and I just wanted to be healthy and now I’m ready to go.”

Fitness issues in modern day football is a very common phenomenon. With the game becoming increasingly physical, it is a challenge to keep the players fit during the entire season. However, efforts can be made to reduce the number of injuries suffered by the players and maintain fitness. In this case, Liverpool’s medical department may have had a slip up in assessing the conditions of the players. The Reds will hope this kind of situation doesn’t repeat itself again to hinder their performances. Especially, at such a crucial time of the season.
