Liverpool has now completed the signing of Porto winger Luis Diaz for £50 million. Initially, it was reported that the club was close to signing the Colombian with Spurs also in the race.
However, Liverpool has a way better pulling power than that of Tottenham Hotspurs.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Luis Diaz has already agreed on personal terms with Liverpool.
Who is Luis Diaz and how good is he the ideal signing for Liverpool?
Luis Diaz is just 25 years old and is a pacey winger who is going to enter into the prime years of his career.
The Colombian international joined Porto in 2019 and has played 125 games for them. He even featured against Liverpool twice in this season’s Group stage of the Champions League.
Luis has scored 16 goals and has 8 assists in 28 league appearances. Only Mohamed Salah has more G/A than Luis Diaz in the Liverpool team.
More than that Liverpool had to look sooner or later for a Sadio Mane replacement. Mane is nowhere near his prime and surely Luis can take over the reins at Liverpool. Salah has been carrying the goalscoring load for a long time. The Egyptian has done it consistently whereas Mane is way behind his partner.
Diaz as mentioned before is in a very positive stage of his career. He started for the Colombian National team at the age of 21 and has been a regular starter since then. He even helped his team finish third in Copa America. Luis Diaz is great at making runs in behind and capitalising on goal scoring chances which is similar to the Liverpool forwards.
Mohamed Salah, Jota and Mane are exceptional in their ability to capitalise on such chances. However, Salah is in an exceptional category of his own. Jota has matched or performed better than Mane and Firmino in lesser games.
Moreover, Mane has only 18 months left on his contract whereas Firmino is also in a similar position. The Porto winger is a player with great technical ability and is also comfortable with both feet as well. Altogether Luis Diaz fits Liverpool perfectly and can shine under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp.
