Klopp explains why Origi was not part of the squad against Newcastle

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool took on Newcastle on Saturday, 30th April. Divock Origi was a notable absentee in the squad. Earlier, Origi had scored a goal in the final minutes of the game against Everton which guaranteed Liverpool the victory. However, Origi’s exclusion had raised several eyebrows.

Jurgen Klopp spoke about Origi’s exclusion in the post match conference.

“Divock Origi was vomitting and stuff like this, stomach problems. We had this before with Kostas and Curtis so we have to make sure nothing is going around. That’s why he was not involved.”

Divock Origi is not the best forward in the Liverpool side however he has something special about him. Not the most gifted nor the most technical, Origi possess something called the “X Factor”. Known for scoring late goals, Origi is one of those players who turn up exactly when the team needs them to. Liverpool have benefitted from Origi throughout his career at Anfield. One goal that comes to mind is “Corner Taken Quickly, Origiii!!!”. The goal was key for Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League and win it eventually. Klopp rightfully called him a “Liverpool Legend”.

Origi is leaving Liverpool in the Summer as his contract expires. Origi is a crowd favorite and will always be in the supporters hearts.

Can Liverpool win the title?

Liverpool and Manchester City are separated by a single point. With 4 games left for both sides this season, Liverpool would be hoping to close down the gap between City. The Reds definitely have what it takes to be the Premier League Champions however City does as well. It all depends if City are to drop points in the next 4 games. Manchester City face Newcastle, West Ham, Wolves and Aston Villa. If any of these teams fight it to a draw, Liverpool have a chance of getting on top. However, Everything depends on City to drop points.
