As of now he is still an important player and contributes a lot defensively as well.

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso is one the greatest Spanish players of all time. He joined in 2004 and his partnership with Gerrard established them as one of the best midfield duos. They even helped Liverpool reach 2 Champions League finals.

Alonso had a great passing range, long distance shot, vision , composure as a midfielder. His most crucial moment for Liverpool was when he scored a penalty against AC Milan in the Champions League final.

Steven Gerrard

Gerrard was with The Scousers for 17 years, he became their best midfielder and is also regarded one of the best midfielders of all time. He has been with Liverpool even through the struggling moments. His most humiliating moment was against Chelsea when he slipped against Demba Ba who took advantage of the situation and scored the goal. If it were not for Gerrard , Liverpool would have won the Premier League title after 25 years. Despite this ,he has led the club to 3 European finals and won 2 largely because of him.

Steven Gerrard was a powerhouse and did not hesitate to take long shots. He has scored bangers and excellent volleys with Liverpool. As a midfielder his vision, passing range was also amongst the best.
