Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Maddison have been working together before preseason. The Liverpool man posted a picture on Instagram where they are training together.
Modern-generation footballers generally tend to not train during the off-season. Most of the footballers go out of shape during this time with Eden Hazard being a prime example. Hazard gained a few pounds before his first season at Real Madrid due to which he lost his fitness. The Belgian has been unable to recover his previous form at Chelsea ever since.
However, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Maddison are working together to keep their fitness. Although Oxlade-Chamberlain is working hard, It is difficult to imagine whether he remain at Liverpool or not after this season. Oxlade-Chamberlain, 26, has a year left in his contract and becomes a free agent in 2023.
Considering his age, It is likely Liverpool will extend his contract however it depends if Ox wants to stay at the club. Liverpool are adding better players into the squad and it is likely that Ox will get replaced at some point.
If Liverpool are to let him go, they should try to sell him for a fee as they already let go of Divock Origi and Adam Lallana for free. Ox has a value of 35 million although the price will go down since he has a year left in his contract.
Where should Oxlade-Chamberlain move?
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a decent player and has been on the radar of a couple of clubs. Manchester United have shown interest however it is not a very realistic move. Although clubs like Aston Villa and West Ham United are interested in the midfielder. Of the two, Villa seems the superior option considering Gerrard is the manager of the club. Ox will have a better time working with Gerrard as he is a Liverpool legend and understands the player.
